Santé! Drink Recipes for Your Health

Stay ahead of seasonal illnesses and give your body the nourishment it needs to tackle the challenges of winter weather with these healthful and nutrient-rich drinks.

CARROT ORANGE GINGER JUICE

Fall and winter are the seasons where root vegetables shine. All the sunshine and nutrients that plants such as potatoes, rutabagas, and carrots collect in the summer months are ready to enjoy once the weather cools. While a drink made out of potatoes might not hit the spot (with the exception of potato vodka!), carrot juice certainly does. In this tasty blend, carrots are complimented with citrus, another healthful and seasonal food.

Ingredients and method:

  • 4 carrots peeled and cut large chunks
  • 2 seedless oranges, peeled
  • 1 lemon with skin removed
  • 2 inch piece ginger root, peeled
  • 2 cups ice
  • 1 cup water
Blend all ingredients in a blender—it’s that easy! Recipe makes two servings.

TURMERIC GOLDEN MILK

As you may know, turmeric has many healing properties. This yellow root, often sold in powder form, possesses an ingredient called curcumin, which has been found to be a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. The flavors, colors, and healing properties of turmeric shine through in this easy but delightful drink.
Ingredients and method:
  • 2 ½ cups milk of your choice
  • 1 ½ teaspoons ground turmeric powder
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • A tablespoon of coconut oil (or ghee)
  • A pinch of black pepper
  • Maple syrup to taste (optional)

Combine ingredients in a saucepan and bring to simmer. Pour into mugs. Recipe makes two servings.

APPLE PIE APPLE CIDER DRINK

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) contains a high amount of vitamin C and is also an effective expectorant, meaning that it can help relieve mucus production associated with colds and allergies. For most people, it’s too intense to enjoy by itself, but in this drink, ACV gets some help from other tasty ingredients and adds a pleasant note of complexity.

Ingredients and method:
  • 4 Tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 4 Tablespoons apple juice or apple cider
  • 12 ounces cold water
  • 8 drops liquid vanilla stevia or two tablespoons honey
  • sprinkle cinnamon
  • Ice cubes, if desired
Add all ingredients to a bowl and stir until combined. Recipe makes two servings.

We hope these tasty drinks add a little fun and flavor to your fall. Santé!
