Joseph A. Billig
Senior Vice President of Architecture and Touchmark Development & Construction
Touchmark Central Office
As the in-house architect for Touchmark, Joe is responsible for overseeing the design for all Touchmark communities. This includes master planning new sites, schematic design and programming for single-family and multifamily homes and amenity buildings. A key part of the process entails working closely with operations and all departments to ensure functional needs are met. He also directs the work of several subcontractor architects and engineering consultants and is instrumental in the development of the design through construction.
In addition, Joe directs the interior design, both insourced and outsourced, including furniture, fixtures, and equipment—even down to the selection and placement of the artwork. Because Touchmark owns and operates all of its communities, there is constant communication with operations as well as the ongoing opportunity to talk with residents and staff about the design and how buildings work for those living and working in them.
Prior to joining Touchmark in 1995, Joe worked for other local builders, developers, and architects as well as designing several custom homes for private clients under his own practice.
He attended Cornell University and received a Bachelor of Architecture degree. His design for Touchmark at Mt. Bachelor Village has been recognized by the 50+ Housing Council and Senior Housing Council. He received the 2009 Gold Award for best Independent Living Community (Cliff and Terrace lodges) as well as the 2005 Best of Senior Housing Award—Platinum Award for the River Lodge, Bend, Oregon.
Joe is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and an Accredited Professional in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED AP), having demonstrated a thorough understanding of green building practices and principles and the LEED Rating System.
In his free time, Joe enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons.
"My wife Robin and I love when we get the opportunity to get out and ride around!"
